HAMECS December Discussion
For Doctrine Members Only
On the Question of Islam and the More-than-World City
Our December discussion will be presented by Farhan Anshary, a PhD candidate in Urban Studies at Newcastle University. The article is part of his commentaries on James Sidaway’s article “Beyond the decolonial: Critical Muslim geographies” (2023).
In this presentation, Farhan’s commentary is divided into two parts. First, he illustrates why the question What is Islam? remains an important one by providing a glimpse into Muneeza Rizvi’s article “Palestine and the Question of Islam” (2021). In the second part, Farhan provides a brief critique of the emerging yet promising concept of the “more-than-world city,” which seeks to challenge mainstream literature in urban studies, particularly the literature on the “world city.”
