By the Fireside: Retelling Fire Narratives in Indonesia

Why are forest and land fires associated with Indigenous agricultural practices? Has it been that way since the very beginning? What is at stake? What does it entail? Join us to discuss the (re)production and dissemination of fire stories, accounts, or myths since the mid-19th century that have been instrumental to the denigration and criminalization of Indigenous fire practices. We will learn that investigating such narratives illuminate logics of climate interventions in Indonesia and beyond.
